We believe that to be outdoors is to nurture health and well-being, which are intrinsically and undeniably linked to our ability to learn.
Wild Nature School is a one day school model, providing outdoor, play based, self directed learning opportunities in the Manawatū, NZ. We see children as capable, intelligent individuals who are trusted to know what they need to be doing and for how long.
We see the magic in each child’s imagination, creativity and the gifts they bring to the world. We meet your child where they are with a relationship based approach.
Kindness is our kaupapa.
What our families say...
Being at Wild Things once a week really helps J regulate herself and get through the rest of the week.
Nicki, mum to 8 yr old.
My son wants to spend every day at Wild Things! He loves that he can be himself and gets treated with respect.
Kendyll, mum to 10 yr old.
We have seen our kids grow in self confidence since coming to Wild Things.
Anne, mum to an 8 and 10 yr old.
My daughter has thrived since attending and I have seen her confidence grow. Her week at school is now balanced with a day learning in nature and when she comes home from Wild Things her face is glowing and she can't wait to tell me all about it. She says she loves learning how to use a flint and knife and how useful these skills are in the real world.
Erana, Mum to 10 yr old.
Wild Nature School was recommended to me by another parent. She thought it would be perfect for Alby and she was right. He was nervous on arrival but the relaxed team (Jane & Nathan) were welcoming. Alby loved being given responsibility, being encouraged to be in bare feet and having space to explore. He used his imagination for the building of the 'castle' and really enjoyed playing with the other kids. He arrived home tired but extremely happy and excited at the prospect of returning the next day!
The Wild Nature School is not a holiday program – it is an experience. I would recommend for any parent with neurodiverse kids.
Nicky, Mum to 11 yr old.
The girls were able to explore, create and cook all out in nature.
We will definitely do it again.
Sarah, mum to Kate and Eva.
Kate aged 9 Loved "doing the whittling and making new friends".
Eva aged 7 Loved "paddling in the river and making new friends".
Since attending Wild Things Nature School Max is so much calmer, more content, and overall more regulated. Max struggles with focusing in class but in particular with reading.
After 2 weeks attending, he received the principals award at school, we are getting amazing feedback from his teachers, he is attending school with a positive attitude towards his learning!
I am so glad I took Max out of mainstream school for a day, to try something different yet so simple, getting back to nature. Thank you so so much for the opportunity!
Lyndsey, mum to 7 yr old.
